Cohen Cramer Scores Victory for The Vics!
12 June 2009
On 28 May 2009 Cohen Cramer was consulted by Jim Rushe, Chairman of Northwich Victoria Football Club. He sought the law firm’s assistance with his Club having been placed into administration. Football Conference Limited had made a decision to expel and exclude Northwich Victoria from participating in the Football Conference Competition for season 2009/2010.
Cohen Cramer then received instructions to challenge the decision, which involved urgently making an expedited application to an FA Appeals Board.
By Tuesday 2 June 2009, Notice of Appeal had been lodged with the FA. There was a high element of urgency in dealing with the appeal because of the Conference’s AGM which was due to take place on 13 June 2009.
We appeared in front of the FA Appeals Board on Monday 8 June 2009 and successfully overturned the decision to exclude and expel Northwich Victoria from the Conference.
Accordingly the Appeals Board imposed sporting sanctions of a ten point deduction for the start of season 2009/2010. The decision has proved a massive boost for Northwich Victoria. It means the Club can launch a serious attempt to get back into the Blue Square Premier League at first attempt.
Richard Cramer, Managing Partner of Cohen Cramer said: “The decision from the FA Appeals Board was a brave one, but in my view a correct decision, given the fact that the sporting sanction of ten points deduction is very much the modern way of imposing sporting sanctions on professional clubs.”
Jim Rushe commented: “The service from Cohen Cramer was extremely professional. The team worked very hard, at breakneck speed as we didn’t have long between the Conference League’s decision and the FA Appeal Board hearing. Cohen Cramer put together a good dossier and provided Northwich Victoria with an excellent defence leading to the Appeal going in our favour. We can’t praise Cohen Cramer enough and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the law firm to anyone.”
